The Silent Movie
Spring 2008
Digital Video Editing
Your task for our next project of the semester is to create a movie that tells a short story with a defined beginning, middle and end. The movie should last 1-2 minutes. The only catch is that you may not talk during this movie! It must be a silent movie! You may use an appropriate sound track for the title and credits cards, but everything else must be silent (you could use a soundtrack throughout your movie as well—it must fit the mood of the project though). Of course you may use text throughout so that the viewers are better able to follow your story. Choose special effects and audio tracks that fit the mood/theme of your project.
Please include the following in your project:
A story w/ a defined beginning, middle and end-idea must be approved by Mr. M prior to beginning...see the screenplay form below
A completed screenplay that you and your project partners complete collaboratively. Please write this document in Google Docs and collaborate it with both your project partners and Mr. Montagne
A completed detailed storyboard.
Text tracks to help with telling the story-include your text in your screenplay
Movie length should be 1-2 minutes
Title/credits card
Camera is steady, no zooming and the rule of thirds is present
Camera rarely moves/pans. Your subjects should provide the movement.
Several camera shots are used in each scene when appropriate (instead of one big long shot)
Partners shared workload fairly and collaborated successfully in all phases of the project (pre-production, production and post production).
Project Evaluation:
5 Points No omissions
3-4 Points No more than 2 omissions
0-2 Points 3 or more omissions
